You take care of everyone else, tending to their needs, scheduling appointments, driving, sitting, waiting patiently, worried about what's coming next. You do all of this tirelessly out of love, but what do you do for yourself? Who meets your needs?

Our original program, Powerful Tools For Caregivers is still as relevant today as the day it was created.

Putting You First

Caregivers come in all varieties, parents caring for handicapped or disabled children or a child with cognitive impairments; teachers working in a classroom of special needs children; children caring for aging parents or the most common situation, a spouse caring for an ill or declining partner. Powerful Tools for Caregivers was designed to address every situation by addressing the caregiver first. In the six week program we give caregivers tools to help themselves so they can stay strong for the long haul. We address what to expect and how to prepare for the unexpected, while focusing on self-care and stamina for yourself first. When you are strong, you can be strong for your loved one.

Caregiving is not all sunshine and rainbows. There are tough days and even tougher decisions. Some days threaten to swamp you entirely. Most likely, you didn't sign up for this, didn't expect to be the sole caretaker of another person and can't figure out how to fit in all the things that need doing. Caregiver burnout is a real thing. It affects all caregivers at one point or another. It's noble to care for another person, but the drain is emotional, physical and mental and putting your own health at risk won't benefit anyone. Caregiving is taxing on the whole body in ways nobody can comprehend unless they've lived it. Our program is led by people who have lived experience and understand the toll it takes to provide the care necessary to see a loved on through their challenges, whether it be a short term illness, long term disease or general aging, we'll help you through it, so you have the stamina to continue helping them. The program doesn't focus on the disease, but on gaining the coping skills necessary to outlast the disease. We don't teach you how to be a better caregiver, or how to do more for your loved one, we teach you a specific set of tools designed to do more for yourself. We want you to thrive as a caregiver, not just survive!

Ruth Bitter

Ruth has been working with Tools For Caregivers for more than twenty years. She has personal insight into caregiving, having cared for her mother during her final days as she battled cancer and her husband as he struggled with liver failure. Sitting at the bedside requires more than holding hands and Ruth understands the journey on a deeply personal level.

Pat did some stuff too.

Tools for Caregivers teaches a nationally known, evidence based program name Powerful Tools for Caregivers. Unlike many support and respite programs that provide rest and relief to the caregiver, Powerful Tools for Caregivers is devoted to teaching caregivers the art of self-care. We teach you how to thrive as an individual while managing caregiving responsibilities.
